I am contributing to OpenStreetMap (OSM) and use the desktop uploader for uploading single photos with information helpfull for subsequent mapping in OSM. But often enough I have to realize, that gps position and photo direction of some photos are imprecise in a way, that uploading has no sense. So is there a real chance for extending the features of the desktop uploader with the means of adjusting gps position and photo direction before uploading?

It would be great if the desktop uploader could support daily csv exports of the great Car Scanner app. This app logs ODB2 vehicle data via a Bluetooth low energy connection and can thus accurately record the distance traveled over the wheel rotation, even through tunnels or stretches that lead through a forest with GPS shadows. Recent test drives that I have carried out show very promising route profiles. It is also particularly noteworthy that the csv export, which is obviously intended to document a distance traveled, has already corrected the otherwise usual GPS offset to the road.
Hi @osmplus_org - the desktop uploader does already support uploading a .gpx file if you’re uploading a video. So you could capture with a dashcam for example and then add a precise .gpx file (make sure that the start times are identical). I’m not sure if the car scanner app supports exporting the location data as .gpx? That is basically the industry standard for these types of things.
The ODB2 Car Scanner app I use outputs a proprietary CSV file, only the start time is specified in the csv export, and then only the elapsed seconds are counted. Admittedly, I can create a GPX file myself using a script.
Mapillary probably can’t take care of every format. It would be exciting if the Mapillary app could read vehicle ODB2 data via Bluetooth data, similar to the Car Scanner app.

My question is rather whether it would be conceivable that the desktop uploader could use a single GPX file for the entire day in the future, and that the desktop uploader looks for the correct start time from the gpx route for each video. Out of curiosity, could you share the “very promising route profiles” you mentioned above? Curious to see what you get from the Car Scanner app and whether its a more accurate route line.
Also, what camera are you using to capture?
We would also find this useful. We are using GoPro MAX cameras and recording a track with OsmAnd at the same time. In the event that something goes wrong with the MAX GPS it would be nice to have a backup option for the geolocation and to be able to add the full-day GPX track to the partial-day video file.
(My Insta 360 is still in its original packaging) I’m currently working with a Gopro Hero 8 and have repeated problems with GPS recordings. Especially when a route goes through a tunnel, this regularly renders the entire recording unusable. While driving, I have to concentrate on the traffic and it’s dangerous to tap around on the smartphone while driving in order to restart the Gopro recording after the tunnel. Splitting a parallel GPX recording by hand has been too tedious for me so far, I’ve deleted unsuccessful recordings and repeated the journey. But that’s not a permanent solution.

Excellent, thanks so much for sharing.
In addition to this I think it should be possible for us to detect when GPS accuracy is low and do map matching instead to help solve the tunnel problem. We’ll think about these items for the backlog.

Would like to heap praise, but won’t just yet, as it isn’t deserved for the current 4.5.0. executable - here half-a-dozen ‘off the cuff’ points :
1/ One badly needed feature in the 4.5.0 version is a Windows 10 installer - I can download the executable, but after running it doesn’t appear in the list of installed applications;
2/ Also, the ‘installing software’ green bar only runs to one-third, restarts, this time runs to half the space provided for the green bar, restarts once more, runs to perhaps two-thirds of the green bar area - whereafter the software starts, but hasn’t installed for example a new icon in the software list.
2b/ There is however an item in the uninstall software list, marked Mapillary … 4.5.0.
3/ Although the executable does have access to the ‘old’ mapillary uploader data like u/name and p/word, and the uploaded files history, there is no convenient way - other than by clicking on the .exe file on the desktop - to run the software;
4/ Second gripe is that the 4.5.0 uploader on Win10 won’t continue running when one touches the computer- this would be a handy feature, because it will allow me to check how far the upload has progressed.
5/ Another point is that the old 4.4.1 version had just disappeared from the programs list (the one which appears when one clicks on the windows icon on the bar along the bottom of the screen),
5b/ it would have been preferred if there were a pop-up advising that a new version will be installed, and run the next time one opens the software - by clicking the icon where-ever one custom-placed it;
6/ Come to think of it, most windows installers show pop-ups asking where to install, set / confirm preferences, have -or not- a desktop icon and similar, then proceed : the executable downloaded from the link in the ‘New version’ post does none of these.
So sorry, would have liked to heap praise, but there are some missing elements - some of which were present in previous updates.

For me installation process went well. Starting 4.4.1 the exe told me a new version is available and is downloaded in background and then relaunch and so an. I cannot report every installation process phase because I didn’t focus on that. I focussed on handling pic position and this works well!
Positve is that I can remove single pics from preintended sequences in the uploader work desk without removing the entire sequence. The active pic I clicked changes its colour from green to yellow and the pic direction angle showing occassionally to north in any case.
Another point while pic position adjusting popped up with the map layer. It would be more comfortable if you could provide satellite images like esri for instance. But I don’t know what it means for your efforts you have to do.
So all in all great job and I’m looking forward to the next feature implementation like adjusting photo direction.

Our installer is very simple and it installs the app in a predefined path and subsequent updates simply replace all of the content of that folder with the new app. There is a system notification when the app detects and downloads a new update which is then installed automatically after the app is closed but there’s no way to prevent the update and stick to an older version at this time. I’ll look into the options we have to customize the install experience to see if we can provide more options while keeping the updating as simple as possible.
I’ll also look into the issue of the missing entry in the start menu. Is your desktop shortcut also affected?
Can you also clarify your point 4? Desktop uploader prevents the system going into low power mode (sleep) and the app getting suspended so the upload should continue until complete. The screen can go to sleep during that time, however, which would not affect the upload.

Try to keep uncluttered desktop, hence no software shortcuts on desktop.
Icon on the W10 start window was present, when clicked message window like ‘the program is no longer there - remove this icon’? That icon remains gone.
Python 3.13 does appear in the Recently Added list, the 450 DU didn’t, nor does the newly installed 441 version - which likely was originally an auto update from v440. For completeness: the Mpy CL package doesn’t appear in the Recently Added list either.
Have successfully uploaded with the command line tools - those pics are in the map update stage.
As an aside, will at some point ask to confirm that certain ‘–settings’ copied from my old Command Line .bat file are no longer needed: --interpolate-directions --advanced --import-path --rerun ?
Then: there used to be a --camera-angle-offset? That setting is missing in the CL read.me, and didn’t find the option in the DU either.

Of those mentioned params, --interpolate-directions and --offset_angle are still available. You can also find these options in the DU in the “Image settings” on the map screen.
