Feature Reqest: Main Screen and Capture Map Rotation, offset and compass

G’day, First time here so I hope I’m making these requests in the right area.

While my pictures are uploading, I’ve wanted to look at the map in landscape mode. I would also like the map to follow my GPS and to have the option to toggle between facing north or follow compass. When following the comapss and my gps position, I would like the option to have my position to be offset towards the lower part of the screen so I can see furthur ahead on the map.

Great feature requests, we were actually just talking about adding “follow mode” to the explore map screen. I also like the idea for the position offset to be towards the lower part of the screen so that you can see further on the map when this happens. We should also be doing that on the camera map if we aren’t already. cc: @RawMapper for design.

Landscape mode is currently available on the camera screen but not on other screens.

Another thing on the follow behavior, have the option for the map to zoom out depending on speed, far enough so you’ve got time to make the odd detour here and there.

Would it be too much for when the phone is overheating to give an indication that it is cooling? It’s good that the notifcation appears but would be nice if it hung around as a symbol with little arrows above or below if it’s heating or cooling (little red or blue arrows?) so I got an idea if the aircon is actually doing something or if I’m freezing myself for no reason. The Icon could dissapear once temperatures fall below the warning threshold.

This is probably out of scope so I might ask the OsmAnd team, but how cool would it be to have a navgation mode that you could specify a time or precetage detour to go over old or unmapped areas.

Apologies if this thread is getting a bit long from me - two more things I’ve noticed and then I’ll leave it to everyone else.

Following on from the overheating point: after the prompt shows and the screen dims, the brightness doesn’t restore once the phone cools back down. Had to manually crank it back up. Small thing, but easy to miss if you’re heads-down capturing.

And a separate one - when I rotate the phone to landscape (rotate right), the video preview comes up upside down while the rest of the UI is still in the correct orientation. It snaps right once the rotation actually registers. Photos come out fine either way, so it’s just the live view that gets a bit confused.

That’s me done for now. Happy to add more if anything else clicks while I’m out on a capture.

I am an iOS user and I have noticed all these things happening, the glitch with the upside down capture is fairly common (I think) because I have seen it on some captures near me before. The dimming of the screen is to save power, for me it immediately dims and never comes back on unless I touch the screen.

Ahh true, when the map is open, the brightness is normal but when the overheat prompt comes up, it switches to the live preview mode that then dims. Would like it to return after it cools down

Ohhhhh the map…. I always have it off lol. It helps a lot with overheating (where I live it gets very hot very quick and I have an older phone)

cc: @Anders on these issues

@DanXCI see this post by @sukruburakcetin which has one implementation of “how cool would it be to have a navgation mode that you could specify a time or precetage detour to go over old or unmapped areas.”

Give it a go, would love to hear your thoughts.
