I popped this open for something else. Then I looked again, checked via edit the blurs and sure enough, Mapillary recognized that small lil’ thing way off in the distance was the back of a car and that the license plate needed to be blurred.
That is INSANELY AWESOME!

Yeah, since the new, much better blurring algorithm was applied I’ve seen exactly one! vehicle of which the license plate hasn’t been blurred. Apart from that every single license plate and face I’ve seen since then was blurred correctly; it’s amazing.
It feels like it’s even better than the blurs in Google Street view, where I’ve seen more non-blurred license plates and faces from time to time.
