Pictures of a new shopping mall

It took 6000 pictures.
I am pleased with the result, especially the navigation.
I am not pleased with the blurring of the postboxes.

@filipc What camera did you use for this?

I can’t believe I didn’t know the web app could tell me the camera model used.

I’m of the understanding that recent iPhone Pro models have superior GPS accuracy but only 1Hz, while GoPro cameras have lower accuracy but a higher 10Hz sampling rate. So I’m impressed to see how smoothly Mapillary transitions between the frames compared to my iPhone 15 Pro captures, which I assume depends on the quality of the GPS metadata.

After a bit of research, I recently decided a GoPro (which I can’t easily afford anyway) for Mapillary captures wouldn’t be a significant upgrade from my iPhone. Now I’m not so sure.

I don’t know much about cameras. But my Samsung smartphone is not as good with low light and while panning as the action camera. No, it is acutually bad.

Long ago there was even a discussion about whether the camera model should be shown. It was about privacy and thieves. And of course about people admitting that they use I phones.

No, GPS accuracy or signal quality has nothing to do with it. In simple terms; smooth transitions come from sufficient visible overlap. Good GPS accuracy generally is always helpful but on a different level.

An actioncam on a stick is definitely more convenient when walking or cycling than a smartphone. But, a smartphone seems to be good enough for capturing from a car in most cases. You are going to need a good car mount in this capture scenario though.

@GITNE Thanks for your advice. I’ve just bought a Ram mount for mounting my phone in my car’s windscreen. So far it seems to be the perfect tool for the job. No issues with vibrations or movement, and I’m able to mount my phone within 4 centimetres of the glass.

Great! :+1: Just make sure to fix focus to infinity when capturing in front of a windscreen, if you can (iPhones usually work great with this setting). Otherwise, you can end up with miles and miles of perfectly focused windscreen imagery. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Yes. I learned that the hard way. Hahaha

There are people who think they make good pictures, but they do not know how to judge. It should be possible to read the milestones.
