Been here forever but going, going, gone

As for speed, I couldn’t say. My old process was to drop the pics on computer. Do a quick cleanup and upload.

The upload part, I’d open 4-5 sometimes 6 browsers tabs. Then I’d just upload each one in max 1,000 size sets. I feel like I could do 4,000 in 1/2 hr but maybe it was more like an hour.

The desktop uploaded has the advantage of fire and forget. I fired it off @7 1/2 hours ago and it’s 3/4th through uploading ~85K. Maybe that’s a bit faster, maybe a bit slower for the actual upload.

It requires a lot less intervention on my part. That’s a great improvement for me. I’m grateful that y’ll have done that.

@allen all clear! What I meant to say specifically is: “if the desktop uploader is not working for you, and the shutdown of the web uploader has left you unable to upload, then WE have a problem on our team that we need to fix”. It sounds like we’ve accomplished that now, although it’d be better if it had immediate worked seamlessly. While we can’t fix the past–and surprises did happen–we aim for better going forward and feedback like yours is indeed helpful to know where we are at. Keep it up and thanks.

@micmin1972 ,

Used to be weary about python and CLI, took quite a while to differentiate between CLI instructions for the Windows uploader and the Python one ; plus that invoking Python works differently under Linux and Windows ; plus need a pip thinghy to auto-update stuff (these words used to avoid technical terms out of context) ;

once those two are installed (there are pre-packaged Windows installers, and they worked ‘out-of-the-box’ where I’d accepted all pre-ticked settings) there’s one-time authentication, thereafter copy/paste one command sentence to process and upload all sub-directories from your chosen upload folder.

Might be able to turn that command sentence into a .bat or so?

Looking back find the Python CLI uploader actually easier to use, and definitely faster, press ‘enter’ once, and come back to find job finished ; but /do/ check that the images you’re uploading are the ones you want to upload - and while you’re single-stepping through those 10k images, please make (mental) notes of things to check and to improve on OSM - or at the very least add a note to the map.

Finally : it is wise to single-step through the batch in a viewer like XNviewMP, which can show pics on either a map or a satellite pic : allows to confirm that GPS / geolocation worked as expected.

Met als immer vriendelijke groet,
