Auto blurring blurs street names

Hi, I have a issue with the auto blurring feature applying blurs to australian street signs, they have a blur applied from afar but it stops blurring when closer, however some signs will not be passed in a specific sequence and it degrades image utility. Is this a bug or intentional design where the AI is not certain is it a license plate perhaps and it errs on the side of cuation.

Why is Mapillary bluring street addresses?

I’ve been taking timelapse photos during my walks, and I’m noticing that despite my efforts to ensure that public street-facing addresses are recorded, it seems Mapillary blurs them? See for example: Mapillary I’m not sure the privacy concern here, this is how e.g. businesses identify themselves. You can get this granular level of address by just clicking the building in google maps. In other countries, is this somehow PII? What do you tell the pizza delivery man?

Erroneous blurs

Hi! It seems to me that Mapillary is blurring more and more erroneous features: For example, the place name sign in this image: Or the these road name signs: Or the hotel sign in this: I contribute to Mapillary to later derive data and insert them into OSM. This king of blurring is really annoying. Can it be amended? Thanks, Andrea

The simple answer to your question is: No, it is not a bug but a false positive though. This is the nature of how AI generally works, which effectively is not much more than a probabilistic pattern matching machine. It either needs more training or better tuning of inference parameters. Hence, Australian signs or not, it does not matter.
