Hi @SohaibAhmadu,
Great question! In the recent versions of the Mapillary app, you won’t find a manual setting to adjust the number of seconds between each photo anymore—that’s because the capture scheduling has been automated.
Here’s how it works now:
-
The app dynamically handles capture timing using your device’s sensors, automatically detecting your movement and speed to optimize photo spacing. If you’re going faster (e.g., on a highway), it captures more sparsely, whereas in slower, detail-rich environments (like city streets) it captures more frequently to maximize useful coverage. (more info).
-
This means you don’t need to set specific time intervals (1 s, 2 s, etc.), and you don’t have to worry about adjusting capture settings based on whether you’re walking, biking, or driving -Mapillary handles it for you.
If you’d like more control, there’s still the “Allow manual capture” toggle available in settings, which lets you tap to take additional photos exactly when you want them.
Previously if folks set capture times that were too far apart Mapillary wouldn’t have enough information to do object detection or transition between images. Conversely if it was too close together you’d be capturing more images than necessary, making your upload time longer and using necessary device storage.
Let us know if this isn’t working for you or if you have any other questions.
