GoPro MAX2 vs PANOX V2

Hi everybody!

I just started my adventure as OSM mapper and I would like to buy a 360° camera to help me to improve accuracy and recall of the paths I go through. Right now I’m taking pictures with my smartphone as memo so afterwards I can add the necessary information using JOSM on my computer.

In the official Mapillary guides, GoPro MAX2 is the recommended one for high quality pictures, but PANOX V2 also seems that could be a good option.

Do you have opinion/feedback between these two cameras?

Thank you in advance!

Hi @HappyDave ,

You’d have found the post at What 360 degree camera to buy? ?

Next step, try your favourite search engine with a query along the lines of “compare GoPro Max 2 and Panox V2”;

Is there any reason why you’d forego the V3, which is listed at just $20 more? PanoX V3 Waterproof 360 Motorcycle Camera

Would price be a limiting factor ? The Max 2 lists at €520, the Panox V2 at $380 and the V3 at $400; the V3 offers higher resolution, far as I can see on a par with the Max 2;

Gopro can be bought with a money back guarantee, in many countries from a country specific supplier, thus taxes taken care of, while Panox looks (please do double check!) like it will be shipped from China, which may make it harder to obtain a full refund - think of import and sales taxes.

As to image quality and easy of process: the Max 2 can be set to take one jpg picture every other second, the Mapillary uploader is optimised for a limited number of file formats, the GoPro formats (all?) are supported which essentially makes for no post-processing; have no experience with the Panox post-processing but the specs at the bottom of PanoX V3 Waterproof 360 Motorcycle Camera look similar.

Just my tuppence, please let us know which one you bought, and how it shapes up.

Met vriendelijke groet (Dutch for ‘with friendly greeting’),
