We’re excited to announce another Complete The Map 2026 Europe and are inviting users to sign up for our interest form. This is a collaboration between Mapillary and HERE Technologies, and we’re inviting contributors across Europe to help improve street-level imagery coverage this summer.
We are looking for contributors to take part in capturing fresh imagery in selected cities across 8 European countries. Top contributors will be eligible to receive a GoPro MAX2 camera Bundle, E-Gift Cards, and Mapillary swag.
As we already discussed by email, I’ve started a long-term project to improve Mapillary coverage in Tournai, Belgium, which had very little street-level imagery before I began. I’m continuing to capture new imagery there on a regular basis, alongside working on improving OpenStreetMap.
I understand that Tournai isn’t one of the cities selected for the Complete the Map 2026 challenge, but I’ll keep contributing there nonetheless. It’s been a great opportunity to experiment with different capture setups and to build a structured approach that I hope can eventually be replicated in other cities as well.

150 UKM to even qualify for the challenge is rather steep, especially for people on capturing on foot.
There are two Frankfurts in Germany. Although I think I can probably guess which one you have on your mind, you may want to be specific about which one it is. Maybe both?
Sign-up deadline: This is something we have under review. The blog post is primarily to gather interest and take sign-ups while we promote the challenge.
Dates: The challenge period is designed to allow contributors to get out and map for the remainder of the summer!
Upload deadline / conditions: We are using some of the conditions based on the success of the previous program, but we are actively on hand to review. Feedback like this helps!
Frankfurt: You’re absolutely right, we mean Frankfurt am Main. We’ll update the blog post to clarify. (Though if someone wants to map Frankfurt an der Oder as well, we certainly won’t complain! )
Fair point. Since large cities are usually best covered anyway, I also wonder whether there are still enough UKMs left for anybody to compete over.
Furthermore, there are 45 countries in Europe and thus also at least 45 capitals to capture. Limiting the challenge to just 8 countries is kind of discriminatory against all the others, I would say. It is okay for #CaptureTheMap US to encompass 50 states (and yeah, lets not make it #CaptureTheMap NA because we do not need Mexico and Canada) but when it comes to 45 countries in Europe then it suddenly too much. Confusing and also kind of disrespectful.
I agree, it’s not that difficult to point a city in every country, it would be way more fair. Brussels is now for the second time, that doesn’t make any sense.
