The generic Web upload interface seems to be gone.
Currently there’s no way to simply upload pictures from my system (Linux / Firefox).
I sincerely hope, this is just a glitch, as the web upload worked really great.

Nope, that’s not a glitch, the Web uploader has been deprecated in favour of Desktop and CLI apps in the June platform update, see Page not found for further discussion.

Same situation. I use Debian GNU/Linux + Firefox and now I cannot upload images.

even without using Linux, it should be a basic functionality, to reach a large public all over the world that want to upload their street view images quick without any hassle (or require knowledge of command line cli tools)
