I think allowing video uploads via a mobile app would be easier for users.

@duongcuatoi - what is the workflow you’re thinking of? Unfortunately uploading large files on mobile phones is fairly tricky (long running processes may be killed by the operating system, etc)
I think it’s possible because modern phones are already very powerful, and not everyone has a computer to upload videos. Adding this feature would allow Mapillary to have more data!
@mann - what workflow were you thinking of? Which device are you using to capture video?
I’m not very good at English, so I’m using translation software.
The workflow I’m thinking of is similar to uploading videos with Mapillary Uploader on a computer.
The mobile app could allow users to upload video files directly and also attach GPX files to the upload.
You see, if uploading is done on a mobile phone, I can use my phone to record the GPX track.
Then I can use another device to record the video, for example a CCTV camera, a dashcam, or even another phone camera.
Thank you for the clarification - this is something we can consider for the backlog, especially if it becomes a more common ask.
+1, good idea! ![]()
=D
I wanted to ask the same thing. Planning to capture via vantrue E1 pro 4k dashcam but I have no clue how to get the footage into mapillary if no desktop computer is available.
Hi @alexaddismap - yes, for now you will need a desktop computer to upload. When working with large video files like the ones generated by dashcams a desktop upload is the most reliable method for now.
Thanks for the response. Will try something else (my plan is to use a 4G router with OpenWRT to plug in the SDCard from the dash cam and auto upload) .. let’s see how far I come with this.
Great, let us know how you go! You should be able to run mapillary_tools on something like a Raspberry Pi so that might be one way to go if you’re looking for the most minimal setup.
hey @boris, If I transfer the .insv to .mp4 in my phone, Can I upload it via the “Import” Feature?
Thanks LMK.
No, the import feature supports .jpg images only
and also .heic I believe (since my S24 photos are going thru)
This is what I came up with, so far.
- I am using a GL Inet 4G Router with OpenWrt and some custom scripting
- I believe it’s not easy to install mapillary tools on it, so I just rsync the SDCard contents as soon as it’s plugged to a Vserver and can install mapillary tools there
