Swimming censoring

My friend asked me “if I map when people are swimming, r the body will be censor or only the face?”

I said to him “I don’t think so, lemme ask the forum”

Does the body gonna censor when they are swimming so?

The automatic blurring applies to faces and license plates only. You can also add changes manually to any part of the image on mapillary.com

Personally, I go through my images and delete any that are “too invasive”. While I’m fast-forwarding through images, I delete any obvious ones - I generally cut out young children, barely-clad people, closeups, etc. Although none of this technically violates common privacy in public spaces, I do often wonder about filming people in places like beaches where most people are wearing just tight swimwear. With 4K/5.3K images, you are basically recording a full photo of someone even when passing several meters away. If I could theoretically identify someone I know even with their face blurred, then I would generally delete such photos.

There have been several occasions where I encountered stuff like naked children at a beach or someone urinating against a fence as I pass by. I cut those out fully, but there’s nothing in Mapillary logic to possibly detect something like this as it’s all super-contextual.

By the way, Mapillary TOS are both extremely vague and ridiculously broad, and as far as I know completely unenforced for 99.9% of what it says. It literally says stuff like “images of children” - so basically any footage anyone ever made in a busy park where kids are playing or something. Or what about “any unsolicited [..] advertising” - so basically all of inner city imagery with posters on every wall or every billboard on every highway. I mean, the TOS are completely disconnected from reality, which is where one would normally expect to find at least some guidance.

I delete pictures from families playing in their garden.
