Are there plans to integrate with Meta Quest at all? The Quest 3 would produce excellent quality 3D geospatial / NeRF imagery, given it can output stereoscopic, stabilized, orientation aware video at 1920x1080 per eye.
Is it that there’s no way to detect unsafe use (i.e. while driving) yet? That seems pretty fixable, you could make it NeRF by default, flag videos that track roads, and then ban anyone caught behind a wheel. It might be reasonably doable to produce low-res instantngp nerfs locally, specially since videos will take ages to upload, and with the right sort of ray sampling, know which pixels contributed to what when stitching them into a world.
Seems like a missed opportunity for a torrent of data, more than enough to put Google Earth/Maps and whatever Microsoft have to shame. Is it political, resource issues, or just waiting for the right AR APIs and new kit to arrive?
