Awesome, great to see more cameras entering the market. If anyone acquires one, would love to hear your impressions and see sample video/image recordings.

Awesome! Hoping to see more videos of this camera and its features. One thing I am always hoping these new cameras incorporate and have yet to see in a consumer camera, is image stabilisation / horizon levelling while shooting image time lapse. Are you planning on getting the early bird discount and buying this camera @enteq?

The promise of 14k photos (96MP(13888×6944)) is interesting, but I’m guessing this won’t be available at any usable intervals (sub 5s) at this price point, given Insta360 couldn’t do it with the Pro which is a much larger package.
Also given how subpar their previous 8K camera photos turned out, I am not holding my breath - but would be interesting

oh wow. what a mess.

3 different analytics trackers
2 crash libraries
1 ad library

This is… off-putting :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

D’accord Nice new 360 Camera for Mapillary: PANOX V2 - #22 by GITNE

Wait until you found our where it is made. I doubt Insta360’s app is any better

Check for yourself:

Analytics in mapillary programs doesn’t bother you? Whatever you like.

Oh come on. Participating in a service that is owned by Facebook doesn’t bother you? Whatever you like.

Did you even check before commenting?

Their comment was exactly on this - you (and all of us here) know full well that Mapillary is a Facebook company, and yet you continue to participate in it. So surely you are pragmatic about tracking, especially since there are counter tracking measures available.
Cost vs benefit people…

Has anyone tried using this camera for Mapillary yet? I’m thinking about maybe getting a 360 camera for street level imagery and this one looks like just about highest quality available in this price range. I’ve never used a 360 camera before though and I’m not sure what the full workflow would be like.

See here:

The downside is the interval. Although 3s are set, effectively it results in one 18MP picture every 6s or 72MP every 9s. Mostly sufficient for hiking but not for cycling.

The fastest interval for 96MP is 2 seconds with JPG and/or DNG. For DNG, an external SSD through the USB-C port needs to be used (or 3 second interval through the built-in storage). A typical laptop USB-C hub can be used to connect the SSD and a power bank at the same time.

I do plan on cycling with this but with the 2 second interval looks like I will need to ride slowly. I don’t yet have any cycling samples but here is a single shot.

Could you verify that a shot is really created every 2 s (file creation date or so)?

Which intervals are supported in interval photo mode?

but here is a single shot

This shot looks awesome!

Did you any post-processing?
How looks horizon levelling, when the mount is not perpendicular? See New Insta360 x4 with 8k video - #12 by Hol_Ger.

I am very excited to see more of your interval photos.

I do want to do more testing but yes it is 2 seconds if you manually set the shutter. On automatic it gets ‘averaged’. Kandao explains it in their FAQ. The interval that can be set is any second between 2-60 or 70 80 90 100 110 120. The fastest interval available is only allowed based on how fast the storage speed is.

I’m thinking of doing my own post-processing like denoising the sky but not yet. No stitching is done in-camera so the app/software needs to be used. In the sample I used QooCam Studio with the DNG. It looks much better than the JPG straight from the camera. The software does have horizon correction but I do need to tweak it further to get it to look correct and it will also apply to the rest of the interval shots.

Ok, that is clear. What I mean is with X4 I select 3s, but photos are created only every 6 or 9 secs. It is not because exposure time is 3 or 6 secs

No stitching is done in-camera

Same as with X4. With Insta360 Studio I can also do some color correction when exporting:

Is there a similar function in QooCam Studio?

I used QooCam Studio with the DNG. It looks much better than the JPG straight from the camera

Maybe you can provide a shot taken as JPG and DNG for comparison? You could also send it to me in a message.

It is more limited in QooCam Studio. I can apply LUTs if I import a video or timelapse but otherwise I need to use some other photo editor. The colours of the final output looks very different to the preview.

Files

Many thanks for the files!

The colours of the final output looks very different to the preview.

Related to colours and exposure the X4 does a good job when taking JPEGs. See here: Mapillary. All sequences on this day are only sharpened afterwards. No further corrections were applied.

This is the preview in Insta360 Studio:

So far I have no experience with DNG.

The DNG files is a professional photographer format and is very big and slow to process. It can give better results during editing but for most, JPG is sufficient. Today’s 360 cameras like ours have much better HDR capabilities compared to say the first generation consumer 360 cameras (and resolution).

I’m now trying to upload intervals but something isn’t working.

But the GPS data does appear to be there.
