Camera magnet for slapping onto city buses

I was just reading https://blog.mapillary.com/update/2025/04/10/announcing-camera-grant-program-v2 and thought: how about third world countries, where users might not own a vehicle, and take the bus.

Well have them glue a magnet to the camera, which they then slap place on the side of the bus before they enter through the rear door, and pull off after they exit, all unbeknownst to the bus driver!

Hmm, but then the camera could get stolen by other people on the outside.

Anyway, on the buses I’ve been on the windows don’t open and are tinted, so that’s why I came up with that idea. Also where I live nobody steals anything anymore these days. Plus it doesn’t rain often. See also Experience with mounting a camera outside a car - #4 by zors1843

I think the key issue here is using municipal (?) property without notifying the driver. In most jurisdictions this would be at least problematic, if not illegal.

Tinted windows are still ok for some capture (if it’s not full black out tint, which surely is not legal)
