Blue sky or cloudy, early morning or evening, when is the best time to take Mapillary images

The day is too short for Mapillary fans anyway, but under what conditions do the best shots come out? Tell me your opinion.

Although one can get nice pictures in early morning or late afternoon, when it come to reading panels for OSM, sun at the top is better. Cloudy sky with smooth light is even better. Panel with direct sun light may be overexposed and not readable. Panel in the shadow near strong light are also underexposed and not readable.

Average phone (walking): 6am-9am (supposing that 12am will be >40°C/>104°F)

then

5pm (maybe) to 8 pm?
Average Insta360 X4 (Video 360, 4k, 30 fps) 5am-7pm maybe?

In Italy at 12am can get up to 45°C (113°F)[wikipedia]

This is what Google recommends for Google Street View:

  • Avoid sunrise and sunset.
  • Adjust exposure for bright conditions.
  • If your camera supports a real-time preview, use signs and storefronts to verify proper exposure.

With full light one sees, otherwise one has to watch.

On saturday 20 o’clock I drove eastwards in my region, which means that the road has been pictured many times. After a while I saw that all zebra crossings now had overhanging street lamps. There was a lot of sun in my back, but I had no time to start capturing.
The day after same time, there was no sun and I decided to wait for a better occasion.

It all depends, in hillbilly country I am not so meticulous.

Mapillary recommendations for Nerf scenes apply - as already mentioned, diffused light (overcast) is best
