Android: small bug fix update (6.9.47 is out)

Hi all, this is just a small update with some fixes:

  • Fixed bug where the dim screen info dialog shouldn’t dim screen instantly
  • Fixed bug where capture was not started after dismissing the dim screen dialog
  • Localization updates

Cheers,
Anders

Since this version, I regularly receive a message saying that my device is too hot. Even when I’ve just started recording.

@Lowiekse - sorry to hear that - could you let us know with phone model you’re using and your Android version?

Samsung A51, Samsung A54 and Samsung Xcover. I am experiencing the same problem. So it does not seem to be specific to a particular type.

Thank you! @fcignat - are you able to see if you’re able to reproduce this?

For this I only manage to reproduce it more often with the Google Pixel devices (Google Pixel 7Pro Android Version 16 and Google Pixel 4a Android Version 13) for which I already have a task raised and assigned to Anders (for example, if the phone is plugged in to charge and doing Auto Captures the overheating appears after a couple of minutes). For the Samsung devices which I have (Galaxy 9, Note 8 and S21) I have done captures for 30 minutes and I still did not get the device is overheating message (granted, I do not have a SIM card installed on these devices, which I think it might contribute to the heating problem). I will try to test again with a SIM card to see if that will make a difference.

Quick update follow-up from the previous comment: I did insert a SIM card on Samsung Galaxy S9 Android Version 10 and I had a relatively poor connection (4g+ with alternate weak signal between 2 bars and 0 bars of signal) and after 2 minutes of constant Manual Capturing I got the message with ‘Phone is overheating’ (quick mention, the phone was also charging at the same time). I have repeated the test again after leaving the phone to cool off, and again with the SIM Card and Mobile Data enabled I got the ‘Phone is overheating’ after 2 minutes and 15 second. And I then took out the SIM Card, and then did the test again with constant Manual Captures and after 10 minutes I still did not get the message. Definitely a constant mobile connection and maybe other apps running in the background contribute on triggering the Thermal State of the phone. Not to mention if there is also a heatwave and the dashboard temperatures are higher.

Thank you Florian - would you mind opening a task for this (assigned to Andres, cc Yaro and myself?)

The same thing happens to me. I have a Google Pixel 9 with Android 16.

@Lowiekse @Albergarri788 Thanks for reporting issues! I don’t think this particular update should cause these problems, but the previous version (6.9.44) had many changes, including the addition of showing the current capture on the map during capture. Can you try turning off the map in Settings and see if that has an effect? The setting is called “Hide live map while capturing”.

I have version 6.9.48 and the message about the device being too hot is still there. Even when I just start up the app.

The setting ‘Hide live map while capturing’ is turned off.

Hey, just a quick update. We will release a fix soon, hopefully this week. You can safely capture with the current version—it’s not overheating faster than before, it’s just that we added this message when a certain thermal state is reached. In the update we will change so that this message is shown at a higher thermal state, i.e. it will not be shown as quickly.

The update is out now, see Android: API target increased and overheating mitigation (6.9.48 and 6.9.49)

Let me know if you are still experiencing problems!
