KartaCam 2 might be the real deal (plus KartaView now offers auto Mapillary export)

KartaCam 2 – KartaLink

If it delivers even half of the promised speclist, I’d be happy - at this price there is nothing comparable in the prosumer 360 market.

Looks interesting and promising but they should rid of the ridiculously expensive LiDAR component. Its cost is nowhere near proportional to results, especially when you can achieve very similar results with standard ultra low cost visible spectrum cameras.

To be honest, I have been long time hoping for Mapillary to actually partner with an established camera maker to develop a sensible low cost camera for mapping. So far, Mapillary has been just proliferating the rather poor picture quality and experimental firmware delivering GoPro MAX. It is better than nothing but I think that Mapillary could do better, especially since it is FB backed. And, I also do believe that you do not have to spend millions of USD or EUR and years of R&D time if you partner with the right people to deliver what the mapping community needs.

LiDAR is an optional addon - I preordered mine without it.

If Grab managed to design a camera (and plans to sell it at cost) I’m sure Mapillary can too, but I guess they don’t have such an objective - potentially because current mapillary use cases/FB objective can make do with lower resolution

:+1: I am looking forward to viewing example imagery on Mapillary.
