Interval of images gets longer after recording for a long period of time

Since around the end of September 2024, while recording continuously for a long period of time, in the beginning it was fine, but around 10 minutes later the interval between images becomes longer. It is not related to the speed and road conditions, just randomly longer interval between images. I was capturing with Android app 6.4.84. Just wondering is there a way to fix or improve it? Here are some sequences for reference (recorded within the same session, automatically splits to 300 images per sequence):

I have no experience with the android/phone capture process, but my first thought was that it might be CPU speed/environmental/temperature based. ie the phone slowing the CPU when it gets hot.

Easy to test, blow some air onto it during operation and make sure the body is shaded from direct sunlight as best as practicable. Even take some body temperature readings.

Hi @Zh9567 - when you travel at high speeds (like on the highway) the interval between images will increase. This is by design - basically because there doesn’t tend to me too much to capture on the highway and signs are larger which doesn’t require as dense capture as when traveling through a city.

In my case it is not necessarily happen when travelling at high speeds. Like in the last link provided, the end of the sequence was recorded at hilly areas.

Could it be your phone started jiggling around?
I used to have problems because it would only take photos if your gyroscope sensor indicates the phone is level.
I don’t know if the android app still does this

Have a long distance recording today, and I think that the main reason for the long image interval issue might be overheat.
Before I start to record, I tried to clear the cache and also uninstall and reinstall the application. The flash on capture option is also turned on to check the capture interval. Just like the previous sessions, the interval gets longer after about 15 minutes. Also tried exit capture temporarily while waiting for the traffic light turns green, but still the same condition (P.S.: I am a passenger). And the phone gets overheat after long period of recording and also the sunny weather, probably the GPS logging on OsmAnd at the background also have effect on it.

Yes, phone overheating is a real problem, particularly if you’re running other apps in the background as you mentioned. Unfortunately phones are not really designed for long-term imagery capture, but we will be working to continue to improve and mitigate thermal issues in the Mapillary apps.
