Hey Mapillary community,
We just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone here. Your work is incredible, and thanks to the amazing imagery available through Mapillary, we were able to build something really fun and a bit magical: a Ghibli-style map in our geography guessing game site GuessWhereYouAre.
GuessWhereYouAre is a geography game that challenges players to guess the locations of random places on Earth using Street View images. Street View images are fun, but we were wondering—what if the world looked like it was processed by AI into a dreamy Ghibli style? Our initial testing gave us the right balance between detail and a hand-drawn look, so we turned it into a playable map.

If anyone is curious and wants to try it out, here’s the Ghibli-inspired map using Mapillary imagery:
Guess Where You Are - Free GeoGuessr Alternative
We’re completely free to play, with high-quality maps like this one, inspired by the peaceful, dreamy aesthetic of Studio Ghibli. If you’ve ever played GeoGuessr, it’s a similar concept — and many users are calling us the best free alternative. The game is also available under a shorter name: FreeGuessr.com.
All images are properly attributed, and after each guess, players get a direct link to the original Mapillary photo along with the author credit. (We hope we didn’t miss anything!) As we bring geo-guessing gamers from around the world together, we also hope it helps grow awareness of Mapillary and brings more people into your awesome community.
We really hope that one day we can switch from our current Street View solution to Mapillary for all our maps!
Thanks again – you’re all awesome!
