In Railroads: Amtrak, etc I argue that railroads are a glaring omission from Google StreetView, so it’s time for Mapillary to step in.
I argue that railroads are a glaring omission from Google StreetView, …
There is a good reason for this because in the US almost all railway tracks are private property. So, just like with private roads, it is a policy and licensing issue.
In many countries railway tracks are public land where capturing is a non-issue, in others railway track operators or laws forbid photography for various security and military reasons.
…so it’s time for Mapillary to step in.
So, I would be rather cautious with regards to capturing railway tracks. Play safe.
Thanks for the sample images. Yeah, they don’t look very interesting. Of course, it would be ideal to be able to mount the camera in the driver’s cabin, but not sure if they’d be happy for me to do that..

I think you will have a couple of problems to overcome - fixing the camera and image stability. They’re related. Fixing to the train body or glass will transfer vibrations that your hand holding automatically smoothes out. But if that doesn’t turn out to be an issue, then a suction cup would be great - but trains do get dirty outside and you may find that dirt is more obvious when on camera9apps apk
to mount camera outside of a train, the easiest way would be to use some kind of strong magnet mount. There are lots of it available that you can hang kilograms with them. Suction cups need clean and reliable surface (glass)? but magnet will stick to everything and steel surfaces is plenty on the train Using camera like gopro will overcome any vibrations from a train.
Depend on the train if you want to film front view, you can actually use rear view from last car like here:
Just be sure to check local regulations as lots of contries have some kind of prohibition of registering strategic infrastructure
