I am a GIS consultant earning my living with Esri tools, but my hobby uses open source tools. I am an experiences tutor in Python and FME. I am impressed how data capture of street furniture is being automated. It used to be very manual.
My kit so far is a Galaxy Note 8 and a DJI OSMO Mobile 2 for walking tracks.
I hope to eventually cover the whole of Auckland which has 100,000 km of roads.
The data capture is on the one hand easy, but slow to edit. I use the GPX in my phone for convenience, but it would be nice to use a better rig to get more precise coordinates using kinematic adjustment. Unfortunately that is a lot more fiddly and escalates into survey equipment prices. I have considered a rear facing camera to save having to double up on two way passes.
