Apparently, my phone didn’t like some of the Android app updates.

This is how it was in August 2024 – [https://www.mapillary.com/app/user/matsumi?lat=54.6018302&lng=25.9640823&z=17&pKey=3313406008964138&focus=photo](https://www.mapillary.com/app/user/matsumi?lat=54.6018302&lng=25.9640823&z=17&pKey=3313406008964138&focus=photo)

And this is how it looks today (Android app version -6.7.20)- [Mapillary](https://www.mapillary.com/app/user/matsumi?lat=54.5984554&lng=25.9529578&z=17&pKey=2501891353491263&focus=photo)

Samsung Galaxy S20fe (SM-G780G/DS) phone, Android version - 13.

Thanks for the message, I will take a look at it. That looks like an issue with a focus, as I see different results within the same [sequence](https://www.mapillary.com/app/user/matsumi?lat=54.60030879999999&lng=25.961220899999944&z=17&pKey=4127020194181499&focus=photo).

It might be connected to the speed, as the app might switch to a different focus mode.

Yaro

I have simmilar observation with Iphone:

I cannot use “focus to infinity function” as its focal point is not in infinity. And when I switch it off then camera is refocusing when I turn on the wipers or there is some dirt on the windshield.

The shared sequence, do you remember whether this one with “focus on infinity” or autofocus?

Hey @masterofnoroad! On iOS, we don’t use true infinity as, in our testing, it produced very poor results.

What we do instead is to take a series of images with different fixed focal lengths and then calculate the sharpness of each image to determine which focal length is the best for your particular device.

Each device is different, so a value of 0.7 might work for some devices, while some are sharper at 0.75 and so on.

This calibration only happens ONCE the first time you capture. You can reset this calibration by toggling the setting off and on again, then it will re-calibrate the next time you start a new capture session.

The idea with this fixed-focus mode is that it will not focus on your dirty windscreen (if calibrated properly).

@matsumi, @masterofnoroad - could you please try the following:

1. Click on your profile in the top left and then the settings icon in the top right. Disable “use infinity focus”.

2. Take a new capture and confirm that the focus issue is fixed.

3. Enable the “use infinity focus” option again, and take a new capture, and let us know if the focus issue persists or not.

good to know! When I noticed the blurry images I started to experiment with the infinity option. Unfortunately now I dont remember exactly what sequences were made with which option. Probably I started the calibration process when in closed space and phone camera was not able to focus into infinity.
I will check it when I get back my hands on the phone as for now its used somwhere else.

@Anders , @Yaro - remind me, the calibration should only happen when the user is travelling at a certain high speed (so that we have relative certainty that they are in fact driving and not inside, etc). Could you confirm the speed/verify this is working as intended?

Here infinity focus was disabled - [Mapillary](https://www.mapillary.com/app/?lat=54.6080815&lng=25.9461499&z=17&pKey=4095070114059370&focus=photo)

@matsumi - the second link is after you re-enabled infinity focus right? Definitely looks like an issue. It might be device specific. For your Galaxy S20fe I would recommend keeping the infinity focus setting off to avoid this problem.

Hi @Yaro.

I’m using the app a lot for plotting a course on the map. I’ve some recommendations for a future update;

- Auto rotate of the map, it’s now fixed in portrait , a landscape function would be great!
- The age option is one of the things I use a lot, that’s perfect, please keep it 🙂 . Is it possible to add my coverage, just like on the website?

Thanks!
